Sometime in the late 1950s i saw the movie,
SOUTH PACIFIC,
and decided I just HAD to visit bali
I landed at Denpasar and went to a hotel in Kuta where we stayed for 3 days. Kuta is very touristy and full of bars and shops and restaurants. Not too bad a place.
Then we moved north to Ubud and spent about 10 days. This is truly a tropical paradise spot... especially when you move around the surrounding countryside.
And lastly we spent a week in Amed which is on the coast north of Karangasem. This had all the sea vistas that I expected from the song "Bali Hai" from South Pacific.

this is the song i remembered | KUTA We spent 3 days in Kuta. We had an evening supper and a few hours of listening to rock and folk songs with Hugh and Barb... friends from Edmonton. Then we headed inland to Ubud. |

| our villa in the rice paddiesIt was situated alongside a stream where we watched local villagers come down and wash clothing. We COULD have watched the local villagers bathing in the stream... but I'm Canadian! I think Lek took some pictures though! |
Unfortunately, the walk played havoc with my sore leg. We tried to have a local lad bring his scooter to taxi me to town, but... for some unknown reason... the front wheel kept lifting and steering was problematic. So Lek and I moved to a hotel... it was run by the same family who had the villa.
