relationship quotes
quote
You shall love your neighbour as yourself.

my comments
(Christian bible: New Testament, Matthew 22)
This has aspects of "self" and "social" relationships. This one always bothered me, because if one does NOT really like oneself too well, that does not bode well for one’s neighbour. FIRST, get a grip on your own issues, do your damndest to resolve them… then extend your “love” to your neighbour. |
Most people lead lives of quiet desperation & go to the grave with the song still in them.

(Thoreau)
This is a "self" relationships quote. Closely related to #1 just above... but suggests most of us are unable to achieve anywhere near that of which we are capable. |
Women give sex to receive love; men give love to receive sex.

(I can’t find an attribution)
This has aspects of "self" and "social" relationships. I tend to think this one has a profound underlying truth. And I think it is genetically underpinned. But then, I’m a cynic. |
Been there. Done that. Screwed up. Sucked it up. Fixed it. Moved on.

(I coined this one, myself.)
This is a "self" relationships quote. MOSTLY, I do not spend too much time on regrets for my stupidity. I try to learn some lesson and get on with my life. Works OK as a life strategy. HOWEVER, do note that I call my screwups “stupidity” which must say something about my inner dialogue workings. I need to work more on fixing myself… see the comment about the first quote, above. |
And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature and in favour with God and man

(Christian bible: New Testament, Luke 2:52)
This has aspects of "self", "social" and "spiritual" relationships. This seems to me to be a profound blueprint for human development, missing (perhaps) any contextual aspects. |
We Do Not Inherit the Earth from Our Ancestors; We Borrow It from Our Children |

This is a "context" relationship quote. Unfortunately, this is not part of most human's worldview. So our poor old earth suffers. |
A work in progress...
HMMMMMMMM... defines me, too!
PART 1: LIVING
Living Component #1: BEING
We acknowledge that our being is in our own hands
“If it is to be, it is up to me”
(I first heard this from Lew Tice of the Pacific Institute)
“If you think you can, or if you think you cannot, you are correct
Henry Ford
Living Component #2: CONGRUENCE
Being consistently coherent in how you approach life;
being true to
- your values,
- your virtues,
- your goals and
- your beliefs
Living Component #3: HAPPINESS
In my mind, this has to do with being satisfied and content with
- WHO we are,
- WHY we are,
- WHAT we are,
- WHERE we are, and
- HOW we are.
Living Component #4: HEALTH
This is more than the absence of disease or infirmity.
It has to do with
- energy level
- mental well being (not TOO neurotic!)
- physical well being (strength, endurance, power, flexibility)
- social well being
- spiritual well being
PART 2: LOVING
Loving Component #1: SELF-LOVE
- We acknowledge that ALL loving relationships start with loving, liking, and accepting our own being
