I'll try something a little different this time. An explanation of what I did, where I went, who was with me, and a tonne of pix (maybe some maps) showing what I saw/did.
As usual, blue text is a link to something else. Clicking pix and maps may also provide more info.

My Chiang Rai friends | I stay at the Baan Malai Guest House in Chiang Rai. It's new, classy, comfortable, inexpensive, and the owners Kuhn Pood and Kuhn Noi have rapidly become family. We tend to eat supper together, either at Baan Malai, or at local restaurants. Miss Noi (Pood's wife) is a teacher. So she misses out on the trips that Pood lays on for us. Don and Nee live in a lovely remodelled house two doors down from the Baan Malai. Don has a vehicle and alternates driving with Pood. Lek and I go along for the ride... so to speak. |
KUHN = Mr. or Mrs. or Miss or you. A very versatile word used to address anyone as a sign of respect. Ladies seem universally addressed as "Miss" in English.
Nee, Don, Lek and I visited here. | the black house |
| riding elephants On one memorable trip, Lek, Nee, Don and I went to a nearby Karin (hill tribe) village and the ladies took a 30 minute elephant ride. Don and I were refused rides on the grounds of cruel and unusual punishment for the elephants. |
This gallery and the one just below, is so my 20% of responders won't feel slighted (see top of page). | holy crap... This is one biiiiiiig snake; a python weighing 75 kg. This was on display at the Karin village where we visited the elephants. The big one ate 2 chickens a week. The smaller swallowed 1. |
| signs in thailand Thailand is pretty good at having signs in Thai and English. So it takes a real talent to get lost. I shall not comment further on my particular talents along this line. However... what if the two languages are still greek to you??? |
No need for commentary I believe. The beauty of this place tells its own story. | 1/2 day trip to |
